This new state-of-the-art clinic is slated to serve thousands of Haitians annually.
The Luke Church, one of Houston’s fastest growing churches, has partnered with New Missions, a prominent missions organization, to construct a brand new, state-of-the-art medical clinic in Haiti’s Leogane Valley. This new facility provides critical medical support and treatment to thousands of Haitians, annually, who may otherwise not have access to basic medical treatment. The original clinic was destroyed, seven years ago, after a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake killed more than 200,000 Haitians, leaving there families to rebuild their lives and communities.
“It has been an immense honor to partner with The Luke Church to bring this medical clinic back to the Leogane Valley and to see its impact on the lives of so many children and families. This partnership is the first of its kind for our organization and we look forward to upcoming projects, with The Luke, in the very near future,” said Tim DeTellis, President of New Missions. For more than 30 years, New Missions has worked to support the villages surrounding Haiti’s capital city by providing churches, schools, clinics and feeding stations, and by teaching agricultural and other skills helpful to the people of Haiti. Their goal is to develop generations of leaders who impact their communities and become role models for the next generation. To date, New Missions operates 32 schools and churches in villages throughout Haiti.
“It has always been the responsibility of the church to support this type of global outreach. This clinic provides an ongoing opportunity for our church and the greater Houston community to have a long-term impact on the lives of those who need it most,” said Sonya M. Sloan, M.D., First Lady of The Luke Church, an Orthopedic Surgeon and Founder of ME&WE, Inc., a Houston-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to motivate and empower women to excel.
The new medical clinic is a continuation of The Luke Church’s mission efforts in the country of Haiti. To that end, the church is continuously accepting donations – medical supplies and financial – to support the new clinic. “As a community of faith, we have a long-standing commitment to the people of Haiti and their well-being. Our global missions focus is centered on equipping our congregation to minister, holistically, to Haiti’s needs both spiritually and physically. We now see that vision coming to life as we explore all the new possibilities this medical clinic provides. This is only the beginning and we plan to do even more,” said Dr. Timothy W. Sloan, Senior Pastor of The Luke Church.
